VAUS - London
« on: Sunday 04 December 05 12:01 GMT (UK) »
Interested in hearing from anyone researching VAUS in the City/East London.
They were Thames watermen and furniture makers.

Hi,
I'm also interested in Vauses in London; my lot were cabinet makers. I'm not sure they are same as yours as I think the watermen are a different lot; but I'd be interested to exchange info.
Regards,
Jamie.

I think we were in contact in July last year.  ;)

I haven't managed to get any further with my research. :(

Thanks for that, Jamie. No I haven't.

I think that it is unlikely that he's related to my Benjamin Thomas VAUS as he is not mentioned in his will BUT he is a waterman.

I'm off to have a look........

Good luck.
Incidentally, I expect you know to be pretty open about spelling: I found that Vans, Vanns, Vanse, Vas, Vass, Vaus, Vauss, Vause, Waus, Wauss and Vance all seem to be completely interchangeable even within a single document without any discernible pattern of use according to the date or particular branch of the family.
