Hi Clare,

I don't  know were Janet Aitchison was born, but will do some digging but her Mother Jane (Janet0 was definitely born in Scotland ,and both were widow in 1881 according to the 1881 census.

Good Luck and thanks for the reply.

Regards

Mary Ellen

I too was just browsing around when I came across your message. I don't think it's the same Isabella Aitchison as the one you have been talking about, but there is an Isabella Aitchison in my tree who would have been born in the 1780s or early 1790s, and who married an Alexander Fairbairn (born Ednam) - both were from Roxburghshire and were living in the area still in 1851.

Any possible relation?

Hi N.K.,

'My' Isabella died in 1849 and, as far as I can tell, she was unmarried - but have no confirmation of that one way or the other.  It could well be a relation, but not sure of the link.

Cheers,

Hello from Switzerland...

I am trying to find some ancestor history for a William Aitchison, born in Edinburgh in either 1832 or 1833.

At the age of 16 he immigrated to Dunedin, New Zealand aboard the ship Mooltan in 1849. He was listed as either a Groom or a grocer. He paid his way.

He married Elizabeth Smith in the Dunedin Area in 1855.

He settled in Kaitangata and had 5 sons and 2 daughters:

Robert Aitchison
William Alfred Aitchison
George Aitchison
John Aitchison
Stephan Aitchison
Isabella Aitchison
Mary Aitchison

Any information (or correction!) are welcome about William. I have found nothing online to indicate the following:

1. His date of birth / baptism or location
2. Parents names and which Aitchison family they belong to
3. Other Aitchison siblings from this family who remained in Scotland.

Many thanks

Tony Aitchison

I have a Helen Douglas born 1808 Roxburghshire whose parents are John Douglas and Janet Aitcheson.
Helen married James White?
