HEAPS - All

My main surname interest at the moment is HEAPS/HEAP/HEAPES. My HEAPS family are from the Preston area of Lancashire, and I would love to hear from anyone researching this name.

All my Heaps are from the WR of Yorkshire and there were quite a lot (apart from mine).
I know traditionally the name comes from Heap Bridge but being of Yorkshire extraction I obviously can't accept that !!!!
My favourite (and it works for Heap Bridge) is that they were a Family who lived near the Wild Rose Tree ie - the Hip tree which in medieval times was spelt more like our current spelling !!!!!!!!!! and I guess that Heap Bridge was near a Rose Hip tree.

There are two people named Heaps listed in the 1855 Valuations for Co. Meath.

Joseph Heaps, Kill Beg, Rathmolyon. Meath
Mary Heaps, Chapel Street, (Commons) Trim. Meath

The following signed the Ulster Covenant in 1912.

George, Eliza Jane, Ellen Jane and William Heaps, 101, Solway Street  Belfast 
 
John Heaps, 24, Westcott Street,  Belfast. 

Eleanor Heaps, 24, Westmeath Street,  Belfast.  (Have a look at the signature here ...
the transcriber obviously didn't as Eleanor quite clearly wrote Westcott Street).

I have Heap in my son's tree, his g.g grandmother. I have gone back a couple of generations, all from Leicestershire so far, although a bit of illegitimacy is throwing me at the minute.

The Heaps registered on the Ulster Covenant in Solway Street are my Grandad William Heaps' relatives. His father (also William Heaps) signed, along with his sister. My Granda and his 6 siblings were born in Belfast to William and Mary Heaps (nee Spence). My uncle has moved to San Diego and had a son there, so there are now also Heaps in sunny California! Granda was always of the impression that his family had originally come from Crewe, as he'd visited relatives there as a boy.
