Help needed, what was this place?

Has anyone any ideas what sort of establishment this would have been?
It was listed as North Square in Dorchester.
What would militia have meant in this instance.

Actually on the original image for the 1881 the entry only reads as John, Caroline, Willie and Harry Hurst in the household. All the others on your transcript are an actual seperate household. The transcribers haven't taken any notice of the schedule numbers changing.
