1861 Berkshire, Thatcham, missing census page; HYDE
« on: Monday 26 December 05 22:33 GMT (UK) »
Hi.. does anyone have the 1861 Berkshire census on CD - the Ancestry.com 1861 is missing a page which has my family on it! The missing page is RG9/719/folio 39/page 8. Thatcham, Newtown (District 3) - missing entries 42-47. The bottom entry should be a HYDE family because the next page starts with Samuel Hyde, age 4, and he certainly wasn't living by himself!
Would really appreciate help
Thanks

Hello Peter,  :)
I trawled through and found the Hyde family on page 29 of the census
the enumerators schedule number is 173
Samuel 41 Ag Lab
Hannah 32  Born in the next parish Cold Ash
William 9
Eliza 7
Phoebe 3
George 2
Fred 11 months
all born in Thatcham and living at Turnfield (Presumably Road)
I do agree that page 8 on the census is missing the enumerators shedule numbers 43 to 47 are not accounted for.
If you want to look through the census page by page select the image number you want. I worked backwards, Page 29 of the Census was on Image number 28. You may find more Hydes this way.
I used to work for Newbury District Council and "Turnfield "is most likely Turnfield Road.
If after you have looked at each page and are still not convinced look on the 1871 census and see who Samuel is living with.
I would also be inclined to report the error to Ancestry too. :)
Hope this helps   Patricia

Hi Phoebe - many thanks for your efforts - I was aware of the Samuel & family on page 28.  My problem is that there is a 4 year-old Samuel at the top of page 9, and page 8 is missing, so I don't know his family!  There are also HYDE's on pages 4, 8, 10, 11.
Regards
Peter

Hello Peter, :)
Just had a look on the census for 1871,
Samuel is 15,living with his Father, Robert Hyde who is a widow. Both born in Thatcham, Both Ag Labs  and residing in Hawthorn Road, no number.
Hope this clarifies things.
Think you should report the missing 1861 census page.

Father - Lionel Hyde
Grandfather - George Hyde b. Epsom, 1873 - 1917
Gt grandfather - George Barthram Hyde, b. Cookham, 1836 - 1910
Gt gt grandfather - Joseph Hyde, b. Thatcham 1812 - 1875
3x - Bartholomew (Bertram) Hyde, b. Thatcham 1781 - 1855
