Hi Mike,

Cardiganshire is quite a big county - do you have the name of a town/village? And do you know when he moved to Monmouthshire? We might be able to find him on a census somewhere and work back from there,

Best wishes, RuthieB

Hi RuthieB
I’m not sure but I think it could be Newcastle Emlyn. , He is on the 1871 census living Coalbrookvale Monmouthshire with his wife Adeline and 3 children .All it says on the census is born Cardiganshire I have him on all census after that and they all say the same.

Mike.
Sorry to be a bit slow comimg back on this one - i don't suppose you have the marriage certificate for Thomas and Adeline do you? Thomas' father's name would be useful to have.

there's a Lloyd in Monmouth in the 1851 census from Cardiganshire but it's the whole family - not just Thomas - so an extra name would be useful

Cheers, RuthieB

HI
You say your family are from Newcastle Emlyn  a part of the village is in Cardigan and the other in Carmarthenshire depends which side of the river you where born. Just take that on board when looking for certificates.
I know because I had that problem
cheers cardiff ;)
