1841 Berkhamstead - RANCE - look up - Please

Could someone please see if they can locate the Rance family in the 1841 Census for me please.

David Rance (b 1804) married Sophie Brooks (b1802).
Children I know of born pre 1841 were
-   John (b 1827, Frithsden)
-   William (b 1832, Frithsden)
-   Jesse (b 1835, Berkhamstead)
-   Levi (b 29/6/37)
-   ? Jane (b circa1841)

Attempting to find if any children shown on census not on list (Arthur b 1831?)

Hi,

I trawled the 1841 for Great Berkhamstead but regret no trace of the Rance family.   Without an index it is difficult to extend the search.

The IGI records the following births/christenings of children of David and Sophia at Gt.Berkhamstead   ...

John      13 Jan 1825   28 Aug 1825
Henry    17 Dec 1826  11 Feb 1827
David    28 Oct 1828   13 Dec 1829
Jesse    29 Apr 183?    29 Jul 1838
Levi      29 Jun 1837    29 Jul 1838

No mention of William and Jane.  There was however a William Rance ch.30 July 1832 at Northchurch  s/o Thomas and Sarah Rance but unfortunately he died 27 Aug 1832.

The family were in Frithsden in 1851 so perhaps they lived there in 1841 too.

I don't know if you have the 1851 details but in case not here goes:

William Rance  75.
All born in county except William the Elder.

I would mention that there are two other Rance families in the Hamlet of Frithsden in 1841 viz James (35) & Hannah (30)  and   Robert (40) & Rebecca (40).

The Hertfordshire Burials Index 1800-1851 records the burial of a William Rance age 85 at Nettleden, St.Lawrence, on 12 April 1849.

Hi Robert, James and David were brothers sons of William and Sarah. I am trying to tract down where William came from. He died in 1849 and is buried in St Lawrence church, Nettledon. I was interested in David (our ancestor) as he was married to Sophia Brooke’s and had all the children listed above. Our ancestor again is the son called David, who I have found was married to Emma Dean it seems they had two children Matthew and Eliza and then she died. Matthew was brought up by his grandparents and lived in Great Gaddesden. He went on to marry Emma Collier. Matthew’s was the only tombstone I could read in the churchyard. I hope this is helpful and thank you for the other informati. If anyone has any further information on William I would be interested. I think he was born in 1764 or 1766 as he lived with David and Sophia in 1841 census.
