Hi,

From Cornish Marriage Index..

Samuel CROGGAN married Jane EDEVEAN on 13th may 1785 at Creed

Samuel signed "Croggon"

Looked for Jane  and found this extracted record on the IGI...

Jane EDYVEAN bapt. 15th Nov 1748 at Little Petherick, Cornwall
Parents John EDYVEAN and Joan

Near Padstow I think - Too early??

There is also a marriage for a Jane EDEVEAIN  to a John HELLSTONE at Fowey in 1779 - is Fowey near Padstow? Might be the Jane born 1748?

I'll let you sort that out!!

Did you know that the Croggans at Grampound/Creed had a very old tannery which was in business until fairly recently?  Very interesting buildings and history to the village which was once a "rotten borough"

There are Croggons living at the Old Rectory in Creed. I don't know if they are connected to the tannery.

As far as I know they are - I did some work there a few years ago.  The buildings etc are fascinating

Both John Croggon of Grampound and I have family trees of the Croggons until at least the later 1970's BUT they are not on a computer (at least mine are not) although if there was sufficient interest I could do so, but not in five minutes! There are I believe about 120 Croggons in the world, spelled that way since at least the mid-sixteenth century, we can go back probably in Veryan Cornwall to about 1427. I at least have not included most of the Croggons who went to America about 1820 with 'Honest' Tom Croggon, the last man to be jailed at the bar of the House of Commons for attemtping to buy a parliamentary seat. Since the internet it is easy to find out more, and there are some in Austrlaia including one, an Alison Croggon, who is a famous author and dramatist. Peter Croggon

Thank you for replying.
Have you any ancestors for the Samuel CROGGAN who married Jane EDEVEAN on 13th May 1785 at Creed. This of course could have been her parish but not neccessarily his.
Just guessing but would think he was born circa 1759/64 .
