Dear Morlands

My late husbands family COATES came from Iron Acton in Gloucestershire  and then via London up to NE England.

Do you have any Coates family  from Iron Acton in your tree

Regards
Tina

Hi I am interested in the Coates family of Cockfield, Durham, as previous posters mentioned.

I wonder if you please have any information on them?

Many thanks,
Jon

Hi Jon
Sorry I cannot help with the Coates family of Cockfield County Durham. My late father in law (Coates) came up from London to Thornaby with the RAF in the 1940's married and stayed on in Yorkshire .  The remainder of his family are still around London.

Tina

You might find pedigree 17 in that excellent book "The Langstaffs of Teesdale and Weardale" of interest re your search. The book can be accessed though Family Search or  Ancestry Worldwide (or just google!)

Rokerman, I have a couple of pages on the family of Edward Coates (1843-1905) who was born at Eyton House near Leominster, emigrated to NZ, and was the father of Gordon Coates, the first NZ-born prime minister of NZ.  Any use to you?

You could also try seeing what Sandy Culver has put on the Wikitree web site.
Bagwell of Kilmore & Lisronagh, Co. Tipperary;  Beatty from Enniskillen;  Brown from Preston, Lancs.;  Burke of Ballydugan, Co. Galway;  Casement in the IoM and Co. Antrim;  Davison of Knockboy, Broughshane;  Frobisher;  Guillemard;  Harrison in Co. Antrim and Dublin;  Jones around Burton Pedwardine, Lincs.;  Lindesay of Loughry;  Newcomen of Camlagh, Co. Roscommon;  Shield;  Watson from Kidderminster;  Wilkinson from Leeds

...... Gordon Coates, the first NZ-born prime minister of NZ.  Any use to you?

I had understood that Francis Henry Dillon BELL was born Nelson, New Zealand.  I had understood he became Prime Minister of New Zealand immediately before Gordon COATES.

NZ BDM online birth registration numbers
1851/2481 likely applies for Francis BELL
1878/162 likely applies for Gordon COATES

Wikipedia has
