Mary Kirby 1770 aprox
« on: Friday 13 January 06 08:35 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help give me more information about a Mary Kirby who was born aprox 1770 to a Franklin Kirby in Barnborough Grange, Yorkshire.

I am looking for details of her Mothers name and any sibling she had and also grandparents on her fathers side.

She married a Henry BAldwin in 1794 and again it could have been in this area.

Any information would be great.

Thanks

I believe Barnborough grange was the manor of Barnborough near Doncaster. So if she was born at the grange I presume her parents were  either of High birth or a servant.

Hi-
Yes this would make sense that she was the daughter of Franklin Kirby who owned the estate as she married into Irish Gentry and would have thought the Baldwin wives would themselves have to be from a simular class.

There are no parish records listed on IGI for them. Do you know where i could find these records and what the family church was.

Thanks for this as I had no idea where Banbourough Grange was or what it was.

The church was St Peters. You will be able to find out more at the genuki site here http://www.genuki.org.uk:8080/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Barnburgh/
It may also be worth checking some of the nearby villages - say within 5 mile, these would be Hickleton, Goldthorpe, Marr, High melton, Billingley and Hooton Pagnell. There may be a couple more but it's 35 years since I lived in that area!
Sorry I cant be of any more help

Just found this

"When Mary Farrer died in 1741, she left Ewood to her cousin, James Farrer. In October 1743, James married a daughter of Samuel Armytage of Kirklees and decided to live in Barnborough Grange which he had purchased from Mrs Kirby"

at http://www.farrar.gb.com/halifax.htm

Trouble is that Mrs Kirby sold Barnborough grange in 1743 but your girl was born there 1770?

HI  Shoppingqueen

Have you seen this site?

http://www.paulturner.ca/Ireland/Cork/HOB/HOB-22.htm

If you go to the word Edit on your top toolbar then scroll down to Find on this page,
then enter in the text box Franklin Kirby then just read the full paragraph.

I've just come across this thread and would like to know if anyone has information on Franklin Kirby as I have a portrait of him. The link that Wendy gave 10 years ago doesn't work now and her post was intriguing as she mentioned a paragraph about him. Franklin's wife was Susanna Cox from Cork, Ireland. They married in 1764.

Hi Rhod McEwan

And welcome to RootsChat ;D

Wendy was last online a week or so ago, but she should get a notification of your reply, and hopefully get back to the thread.
