Stephens Family ST peter Carmarthen
« on: Sunday 22 January 06 18:03 GMT (UK) »
Hi everyone new to the board.  Have recently started researching my family tree.  My grandmother was Gwendoline Stephens for Llanelly and my dad has a really bit of old paper with other family members written on it.

Her dad was David Stephens born in 1861

Other family members are

John Stehens  born 1824
Margaret  - 1822 (maiden name not known yet)
Mary Stephens born 1846 - died 1848
Elizabeth Stephens - 1849
David Stephens - 1850 not on 1861 census so may have died.
John Stephens - 1853
James Stephens 1858
David Stephens 1861

I have found them on the 1851 and 1861 Census.  They seemed to have lived on Water Street most of the time and John Stephens was a shopkeeper.  Can't seem to find them on the 1871.  Think I may have found John Stephens on the 1881 Census, but the name is spelt Stevens, still living in Water Street and a shopkeeper, but now widowed with just David at home and they now have a servant.

If any one can find out any further information, I would be most grateful.

Thanks
Thomas - Llanelly, Stephens -Llannelly, Bowen - Llanelly. Smith - London, Pyle - London.

Hi Sandyglen,

And welcome to rootschat  :D

This is not very much help but I think I can see your family in 1871:
RG10/5499 46 10
St Peter, Carmarthen
41 Water Street

John Stephens, head, 46, Cattle dealer, b. St Peter
Margat, wife, 48, b. do.
David, son, 8, scholar, b. do.

Thanks for that information Tanja,  Think I may also have found a date of death for John Stephens in 1899 aged 75 and may also have found the date of death of Margaret in June in  1878 at 53, that ties in with her date of birth.

Once I finished with the Stephens, I need to start on the Thomas's.  Found some of my dad's family.

If you come across anything else, please let me know.

Thanks again.
