Hi Tracey,

Have you seen the entry on the Ancestry World Tree?  Or was it you who posted it there?!

Found Amos Townsend b.17/4/1785 Cov.
Fa.Thomas/Ma.Mary
Sister/Maria b.23/12/1792
According to the Cov. batches it was this Amos that was married to Margaret Bryan in 1807
Let me know if you want more details.

Hi Tracey,

I've just seen Jim 1's reply about Amos Townsend, so I've had another look at the 1841 Census and found that particular family in Coventry.

If it is your family, the bad news is that old Amos appears to have been dead by 1841.

The full entry is as follows:-

1841 Census

Much (Back?) Park Street, Coventry (Parish of St. Michael)

Margaret Townsend  -  55  -  Weaver  -  b. in county

Amos Townsend  -  25  -  Weaver  -  b. in county

Margaret Townsend  -  22  -  Weaver  -  b. in county

Maria Townsend  -  15  -  Weaver  -  b. in county

The fact that there is a young Amos Townsend in the family suggests that his father was, probably, also an Amos.

I've had a thorough search to try to find the elder Amos anywhere in Warwickshire on the 1841 Census without any success, leading to the probability that he was deceased by then.

More to ponder!

regards,

Richard

Hi Tracey (and Jim)

Following on fron Jim's posting last night, I have had a look for Margaret Townsend on the 1851 census but have not found her as yet.  Was she still alive at this date?

Do you have the entry for Amos Townsend in 1851?  If not, here it is:-

1851 Census

Upper Well Street, Coventry (Holy Trinity)

Amose (sic) Townsend - Head - unm. - 35 - Accountant - b. Coventry

Maria Townsend - Sister - unm. - 26 - Weaver - b. Coventry

Sarah Burton - Visitor - unm. - 26 - Weaver - b. Braunson (?), Warks.

Caroline Townsend - Niece - 6 - Scholar - b. Coventry.

If you want anything else following up on this family group, just let me know.

Hope Jim finally managed to get to bed!

Regards,

Richard

The 1841 address is Much Park St.(as opposed to Much Park Lane in the same area where I spent a fruitless 1/2 hr.)
!841 is now online at:
http://www.hunimex.com/warwick/freecens/1841/index_1841.html
You need 1152,go to edit >find on this page>townsend.
There are several others there who are possible rellies.
