Quinn Brothers
« on: Monday 23 January 06 22:51 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I am looking for information regarding two brothers by the name of Quinn who left Rostrevor County Down Ireland, early in the 1900s.  We have been told two stories, they either went to New York or Kansas and they lived on a farm. Sorry that is all I know.

Dorothy,  Can you give the name of the father/grfather or some other hint as to a name?  An approximate age would also be good.  I looked at the 1900-1920 census' and in 1900 there are 666 heads of families in NY with the name Quinn from Ireland; 17 in Kansas.  In 1910 there are 568 in NY and 15 in Kansas.  1920 has 460 in NY and 6 in Kansas.  But, by then, they are probably married and not living together. So, you see, without some other hint, the brick wall is pretty high.  I will look through Kansas with the hope they are there.---Genealiza

Dorothy, I looked through the Kansas entries and the only one with any possibility was:

1900  Kansas   Marion   Lost Springs
Quinn, James, head, 47, single, immig 1870, farmer
-------, Thomas, partner, 41, single, immig 1870, farmer

In 1900 the latest date of immigration is 1888; 1910 it is also 1888; and in 1920 it is 1892 and that man is 47 and works in the oil fields.  I hope you can provide some further information.----Genealiza
