Hi Sandie... as far as reducing the size of pics, you need to use a photo editor program. Here is a free one (I haven't tried it, I use photoshop, however it looks relatively easy to use).
http://www.vicman.net/vcwphoto/index.htm
When you reduce your picture, make sure the aspect ratio remains constant or the picture will appear squashed. This program will also convert the format if you have large (in bytes) images such as BMP... the JPG equivalent will be much smaller and look relatively the same. If you want to use moving piccys... they have to be in the GIF format and requires an animated gif editor. If you have trouble, send me a personal message and I will see if I can help.
Good luck, Peter.

Hi Sandie,

I posted this yesterday on the "mugshots" topic:
Quote
your pictures probably have names ending with .bmp (BitMaP Format)

If you load the picture in a program like IrfanView (freeware) then you can

a) change the format from BMP to JPG which needs less bytes, and then

b) in the "image" menu there is a "resize" option. you can change the size of the picture to anything you want.

if you already have your pictures in JPG or GIF, just use b)

another tip:
If you have scanned the picture in using a scanner (probably 300 dpi) and want to print it, then you need to size it down to about a quarter (75 dpi)

The "resize" also retains the "aspect ratio" that Peter mentions.

You can download IRFANVIEW from:  http://www.irfanview.com/
I use it constantly and can recommend it.
