1841 census Quebec Canada
« on: Friday 27 January 06 21:17 GMT (UK) »
Is there anyone who can check the 1841 census for George Taylor b 1809 in Essex, Purfleet, Eng.  He would have been living near James Jones or his widow Elizabeth Brown Wilkins Jones.  They had children James (1833) Jemima (1834) and Thomas Jones (1835) born in Quebec.  George Taylor married Elizabeth Brown Wilkins Jones, who was a widow, abt 1842 in Quebec.  Thank you for any help you can offer.

Hi charanderson,

Hmmm...... most places in Canada don't have census records from that early - most start in 1851 or 1861.  Can you be more specific about where in Quebec they might have been living? (It's a big place  ;D )  Do you have birth or christening records for the children?  Or are those dates just from later census records?  Where did the marriage take place?

If you can post a few more details, someone might be able to point you in the right direction...

Thank you for your response.  George Taylor and his wife Elizabeth married in 1842 but we haven't been able to find a marriage record.  They are supposed to have had children born in Quebec between 1842 and 1847 but we haven't been able to locate any of their records.  Do you have any suggestions as to where we might find these records? We have checked the two churches below.

Elizabeth's first husband James Jones was buried in 1841 in Metropolitan Church (Cathredal of Holy Trinity) records.  James Jones and Elizabeth had children born there and also in St Paul's Church in Quebec starting in 1833.
