My gggrandfather Thomas Avery married my gggrandmother in 1820 in Liverpool! - but we've never been able to find his birth or death!! Hi Annie

The term for convicts was 7 years minimum (usually 7 14 or life) but they could get a pardon and/or some of them were on hulks in England for so long, by the time they got to Australia their term was almost up (although this mainly happened prior to 1800).

I'll look a little more (and someone else will no doubt find the answer)  ;D

If you have a look at the Certificates of Freedom in NSW archives you will find
AVERY Thomas  Ocean 1816 29/0463 20 May 1829 4/4297 984 TL 391/1325
so I don't think this convict was back in Liverpool in 1820 - Sorry.

Sorry Annie

You should have come to Oz in 1970s - everyone was giving them away  ;D  ;D

While you are searching around liverpool - if you come across a warehouseman called Alexander Falconer who died between 1846 & 1851 do let me know  ??? ???   He is mine - never made it to Australia - The wife and daughter came alone

There are a few Thomas Averys died in Oz - Do you know his parent names?

Wells seems an unlikely nickname for a Thomas   ::)

No parents I'm afraid!!  :-\

I kinda like Wells ...... though I hear what you're saying ...!!
When he married in 1820 - he married a widow aged 34 - family thinks he was only 20 !! - but I honestly think he was much older than that!! - that's why I thought he might be a soldier!

 :)

Is your Alexander a Scot ?
