1861 Census Lookup - DURRANT
« on: Monday 13 February 06 10:34 GMT (UK) »
This one has me beaten. In 1851 Elizabeth L Durrant (b 1830 in Middlesex) and her husband William (b.1822) were living with Elizabeth's parents Benjamin (1795) and Sarah (1795) Cockerill in Tuddenham St Martins in Suffolk. Elizabeth's children William (1849)  and Charles Durrant (1850) were also living with them.

And then they all disappear. I can't find them at all in 1861. I've trawled through the addresses in Tuddenham, and tried every alternative spelling I can think of, but with no success. It's possible Benjamin and Sarah are dead by 1861, but I feel the Durrants must be somewhere around.

Any help or suggestions will be gratefully received. Thanks.

I'm afraid I haven't had any luck either  :'(

I have found the Jonathan Durrant, nephew, who was in the household in 1851 - hoping that would help find the rest, but no luck ( he is married with kids by 1861)

brief details for Jonathan Durrant are:
1861  RG9/1166 folio 81 p24 still in Ipswich
1871 RG10/1808 folio 12 p18 in Norwich
1881 RG11/1937 folio 91 p19 in Norwich

sorry I couldn't help further  ;)

Thanks Rosemary. I'd found Jonathan in 1861, too. I must say I thought I'd tried every variant of Durrant, but hadn't even thought of Davant - maybe I should look again at some novel spellings!
Thanks again for your trouble. I appreciate it.
