Ok, in the 1841 Census ages were rounded to the nearest 5 yrs for Adults.

The 1841 census I posted looks correct as the 2 Sophias there.
Although the 1851 has Benjamin born c 1785 the person who gave Census enumerator the info may have been out by a few years.

The Baptism info I gave was the only Benjamin born c 1780-1790 I could find in Frome, Somerset, where it says he is born in 1851 Census.

Death Regs;
Sophia JOYCE, March 1846, Whitechapel, 2 396
Benjamin JOYCE, March 1852, Whitechapel, 1c 242

Do you have either Death Cert or has anyone that has a Tree with them on ?

I am not descended from the Joyces at all and am just trying to help John!

Trish :)

Just to let you know that Brett Ellis has not been on Rootschat since 2006 so you may not get a reply from him unfortunately.

Hi Trish1120.

I tried looking at your sources on freereg.org and it wont go any further back than 1837. How did you get it to go further back?

Hello bje2000,

Just to say that the Joyce family are to be found all round the villages in the Frome area in the 18th and 19th centuries. I believe they go back there beyond that too.

Places as Cloford, Nunney, Leigh on Mendip, Downhead, Doulting and West and East Cranmore. There are also quite a few around Shepton Mallet.

I have Joyce in my tree.

There is a website for the Frome Local Group at:

http://www.gomezsmart.myzen.co.uk/

This site has a search facility on it.

Jo.

Hi Jo,

FreeREG goes back pre 1837 as the info is taken from Parish Registers by Volunteers.
FreeBMD is post 1837 when Civil Reg of B/M/D began.
Did you use the link that I gave?
If so, you should have found the Records I quoted.

www.freereg.org.uk
www.freebmd.org.uk

Trish :)

EDIT, OOPS my apologies.
When you go to the home page you have to go down to;
"Search Parish Registers"
That will take you to what you want
(I have the search page saved and forgot that FreeBMD and FreeCEN links are on that home page also)
Direct link;

Hello. Benjamin Joyce (1820-1890) is my GG Grandfather. I have been researching the Joyce Family tree on Ancestory.com.au. I have found scanned documents of the notice in the paper of his court sentence, transportation to Australia, picture of his grave and other ancillary information. He and another unidentified boy stole 2 pair of shoe worth 11 shillings. If you want more info just google his name or reply to this.

Also his father's name was Benjamin Joyce (1785-1853) who was married to Sophia Lacey. They were paupers and lived in a workhouse in London. I am having trouble finding where this line of joyce's came from before this but am finding information difficult to obtain.

If you are related to Benjamin Joyce the convict then you know of his wife Anne Trotter. So far I have been able to trace deviations of her line to 980AD. Her ancestors were part of the French Royal family with several Count, Dutchesses and Knighted folks.
