Thomas Tulloch/Ann McLeod circa 1800's
« on: Sunday 19 February 06 21:20 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for any information on my gg grandparents,

Thomas Tulloch married Ann McLeod in Criech, Sutherland  05 Jan 1848
They had two sons that I know if,

John born 1848 married Catherine McLean, 1873 in Clyne
Hugh born 1851 married to Christina Munro 1871 in Kildonan Helmsdale.

John, my g grandfather, had children Thomas (my granddad), Murdoch, John, Hugh, Jane, Dorothy, and Catherine.

I would like to find out where Thomas and Ann McLeod came from originally, who were their parents?  Any information would be very much appreciated.

Hilty

hi pal, i have been at this post for hours now trying to help, my big problem is thomas who gives 2 different birth places!!!

1851 census; tulloch, criech

thomas...head...farmer of 4 acres...born creich
ann...wife...born creich
john...son...age 2...born creich
james mckengiaott...son (?)....age 7...born creich

1861 census; tulloch, bonar, creich

thomas...head...age 61...general labourer...born forres morayshire
ann...wife...age 40...born creich
john...son...age 12...born creich
hugh...son...age 10...born creich

now it is possible that ann is the daughter of hugh mcleod and ann mclean who was born on the 6th december 1812 but the death cert would prove that.

have you the death certs for ann and thomas as they are availible on scottishpeople website?

trying to help

Hello Joe, I appreciate all the time invested in my family tree especially when nobody in the family seemed to know how old my gg grandfather was! I do have the death certs for both Ann and Thomas, thank you! This past summer I was able to do more research on the Tullochs and found out that GG grandfather was married to three women that we know of and there was indeed a Forres connection but I thought that was Thomas' father, John Tulloch. Interesting and makes sense that Thomas would have been born in Forres. What I did find out was ggg grandfather John Tulloch was born circa 1770 and married a Margaret Hutcheson. They had one child we know of, Thomas Tulloch who was married at one time to Margaret Ross and Magdelane Sutherland. No children mentioned from these marriages. Both Margaret and Magdelane died and Thomas then married Ann McLeod who had one child James McKenzie son of a William McKenzie.  I am now trying to find out where John Tulloch came from.....was he also from Forres I wonder.  Thanks Joe. Nice to know our posts are not always lost in the sea of names. Hilty

Hi Hilty
I wonder if you are you still active on RootsChat?  I see this post is 12 years old, but I've just read it.
It seems we are distant cousins.  My great grandfather was Hugh Tulloch from Creich - your great grandfather's brother.  Let me know if you are still interested - I have quite a bit of info on the Tullochs to share.

best wishes
Hugh
