When I started looking more closely at my family they came from the Summer Lane area of Birmingham. One of the first things I bought was that book. It's a wonderful book.

Karen
Gandley (but known as Stanley in Canada)- Ireland to Birmingham
Ball, Kempson & Franklin - Birmingham
Shorter - Surrey
Dyer - Devon
Dawkins - Co. Cork, Ireland
Heffernan - Ireland
Huck - Alsace, France
Reinhart - Baden, Germany
Bowman & Ellis - England
Etheridge - Gloucestershire

Who all came to Canada in a little row boat, clap clap, clap your hands!!

Wow, I have just found this thread. My husband's Grandmother was born at 246 Summer Lane in 1898, so we shall be looking at your links with interest. This is just a quick visit at the moment but I shall be back for a better look.

The 1891 census had her parents' address as 7ct 3hse Summer Lane, would this have been the same address?

Ooh this has got me excited now, to be able to find out a bit more information about where she lived as a child.

She told us once she lived behind a fish and chip shop, would this have been it or would that have been later?

Hi
246 Summer Lane won't be the same address as 7ct.3h.Suggest you go back to 1891 cen.and do a "next/previous household" search until you come to 7ct.3h.Question:did she get free batters?

I didn't realise it would work like that!

I found 7ct hse 1, 2 and 3 between no's 44 and 45 Summer Lane. Someone mentioned the numbers changing, does anyone know what the numbers would be now? I have narrowed it down to the area between New Summer St and Brearley St.

I have just been looking in my AtoZ and comparing it to an old map of Birmingham' it doesn't look to have changed very much. This is fascinating.

wow, thank you. It looks like factory units from the air. It's amazing to be able to look at where she lived just sitting at my PC. Technology never ceases to amaze me!

I have just found another relation in a different line who lived at Cowper Street too.

Thanks for your help.
