Got to share this

It is a magic moment when you get something no one in your family as ever seen, and thanks to the Commonwealth War Graves Commission that came true today after 64 years.

This is a photo of my great uncle Samuel Kenneth Harris war grave he is buried in Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

He was killed in the port of Trincomalee and is buried in a joint grave. This part of Sri Lanka is controlled by the Tamil Tigers and is still not a place to visit due to the conflict, but the cemetery is immaculate thanks to the CWGC and the local Sri Lankan people.

Bye from one happy rootschatter

That's fantastic Ken! I know I how I felt when I found my great uncle, and he is only in France!

Well done CWGC indeed!

That's great Ken, and kept beautifully, a tribute to great uncle!

The CWGC live up to their reputation.

Did you take a visit to see this?  I'd love to get a picture of my mum's brother's grave for her in Germany.

Will the kind people at the CWGC take photographs of particular graves in the War Cemeteries ?
We've got three that we'd like pictures of, two in France and one in Belgium.
There's just no way that we would be able to go out to visit them, because of old age and illness,
but we would love to see them.     I know you can get photos of the memorials at the cemeteries, from
CWGC, but it would be so special to have a photo of the actual grave.

Hi Ken,

That's brilliant - and so well looked after - even in these troubled times.

Nearly makes all the brickwalls worth having when you finally get through one.

Cheers

I am so pleased for you ken. It looks beautifully kept. I am hoping to visit my great uncles grave sometime in the future but I found it an emotional moment when I saw a photo for the first time.
Best wishes.  Linda.
