Searching for Meta O'Doherty

My aunt Meta O'Doherty left Northern Ireland some time in the 1950's. We heard she went to Illanois. Nothing heard of her for many years. All her siblings have gone now. We would like to know is she is still alive or if there are any new family members. A possible married name is "Salt" but not absolutely sure of this.
Any help appreciated on how to search for marriages or even deaths in USA.

If you know her birthdate, you could search ssdi.rootsweb.com with just her first name and birthdate to see if there's any possibles.

I have an approximate birth year and have searched through the index. Just too many possible matches. Any ideas as to where to from here?
She may even be still alove.
