Father - Hosford Family Dundalk
« on: Sunday 26 February 06 16:57 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for the Hosford family name from Dundalk, my grandfather's name was Joseph,  i believe he was a farmer, my fathers name was dervane gerard, my father was born in 1924, i do not have any info on my grandfather, he was probably born around 1860/70, any info would be a bonus, thank you

Hello Vernard,

I looked at http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths.php and found this family in Co. Cork during 1851-3 when Griffiths Valuation took place in that County. Griffiths does not show them in any other Irish county during the years 1848-64. Do you know if the Hosford family were Anglicans?

All the Best,

Chrisopher

Welcome to Rootschat  :) This isn't a forum for tracing living relatives and we aren't allowed to post details of anyone living so you may need to modify your post.

The original poster (vernard) only made that one post in 2006 and hasn't been online since.

I have been asked to trace the roots of the hosfords in Ireland.
Sounds like you aren't a relative but perhaps trying to help a friend?

In the last few years there are lots more resources online (many free) so do let us know if we can help with information about deceased Hosfords.

Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

As aghadowey said, the OP (vernard) only made that one post in March 2006 and hasn't been online since. However if his/her e-mail is still active, he/she will receive a notification of your post.

Looking at the Hosford's in county Louth, there's this family-
1911 census - house 8 in Monksland (Carlingford, Louth).
http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Louth/Carlingford/Monksland/575249/

Joseph Hosford born in Cork city, his wife Harriett born in King's county. Eldest son William born in King's county, next two sons born in county Kildare and the remaining children born in county Louth.

Note eight children born, eight still living.

Here's the family in 1901 census-
House 2 in Monksland (Carlingford, Louth).

Hi

Looks like Joseph Hosford married twice.  Firstly to Mary A. Larke in 1873.  See
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1873/11264/8207772.pdf

When son William was born in 1873 to Joseph and Mary Ann, Harriett was the Informant.  See
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1873/03172/2163523.pdf

Joseph’s wife Mary A Hosford died in 1879.  See
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1879/06517/4876930.pdf

Secondly as a widower, Joseph appears to have married Mary’s sister Harriett in 1908.  See
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1908/10064/5660581.pdf

Regards
