Ontario Marriage Late 1870's
« on: Thursday 02 March 06 02:32 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find the marriage of;
William Crittenden  Dutch b Ontario Farmer  and
Hannah Stonehouse English b Ontario
In 1871 Hannah was living with her Parents in Reach Township Ontario County.
In 1881 Hannah was living with her husband and 2 yr old Daugther in Gwillimbury  North, York North, Ontario
Hannah's parent's were John Stonehouse and Charlotte ? both born in England. I am guessing they married 1878 - 1880
Can anyone help?
Many thanks

Hi Carol,

Havn't found a marriage yet for Hannah, but have her 6 children to William Crittenden, if you don't have them, let me know and I'll give you the full details:

Albert Howard b 1898
Angus Herbert b 1895
Georgina b 1884
Lucy Maud b 1887
Roy James b 1888
William Leslie b 1882

North Gwillimbury is/was a large dutch settlement.  The "Holland Marsh" is a section of the Township of Gwillimbury where they claim they are the "Produce Capital of Canada".

Found a death for

William L. Crittenden
April 6, 1919
Place of Death:  Brown Hill
Occupation:  Farmer
Cause: Cancer of the Stomach
North Gwillimbury

Now, the strange thing is, is that on the death registration sheet there are three different people and one of them comes from my husband's family.  I just asked him and he knows Crittenden's and his father basically grew up down the road from Brown Hill.  He said it's like 4 houses and he didn't know why it even had it's own name it's so small.  My husband's family (both sides) have been in the North Gwillimbury/York Township area for many, many years.  He's actually the 7th generation to be born in the house.

To give you an idea, Port Perry and Brown Hill are about 32 miles apart, or just over a half hour drive.

That's great Thank - you. It just helps me get an idea of the area. When searching in an unknown country it helps to get your bearings. I find if i know a little bit about an area it can help with finding the right people. Is it mostly a farming area?
