1851 lookup - Race - Ely
« on: Thursday 02 March 06 07:02 GMT (UK) »
Can someone try and find the following:

Thomas Race b.1823 Ousden, Suffolk. Gardener

He was living in Ousden in 1841 but was married in St.Pancras, London in 1852. However, his sister, Sarah Ann, was living in Ely as a domestic servant in 1851 and she was later married, again in 1852 in St.Pancras - at same church as brother Thomas.

I am hoping that brother and sister were together in Ely in 1851?

Thanks,
Ian

He wasn't with his sister in 1851.

In fact I can't see him anywhere!

The closest I can see is a Thomas Rice 29 unmarried Journeyman carpenter born Groton Suffolk living with his mother Lucy in Boxford Suffolk. I'll give you full details if you think he's a possibility, but Groton is over 20 miles from Ousden.

Having just found him in 1861 indexed as BARR I suppose he could be indexed as virtually anything in 1851!

Regards

David

Thanks for the attempt. He was born in Ousden, and in other census he was always recorded a being born there. I guess I'll have to give up at this stage. Maybe as a gardener he would be employed as such with some family living somewhere in the South East.

Thanks again for trying,
Ian
