« on: Tuesday 05 October 04 12:21 BST (UK) »
Could someone with access to the 41 census please look up Rev. Samuel Gilbert Crompton and family in Carlton?

I have them in 51 onwards. Rev. Crompton was the incumbent of the parish.
His wife's name: Clara
Children:
Francis Clara, Rose Julia, Georgiana, Caroline, George Frederick

Many thanks

Hi,

Excuse my ignorance, but which county is Carlton juxta Snaith in?  I can't find it on the National archives index, but can find 32 Carltons!

Hi Sue,

its in the West Riding of Yorkshire. Carlton is a chapelry in the parish of Snaith.

To be honest, I'd also heard of neither before I started my research.

I think the next biggest town is Selby, but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong. Although I spent 4 years in Sheffield, my knowledge of Yorkshire is minimal.  :-[

I have just been sent a copy of the 41 census entry, so this topic can now be closed.
