New search facility for 1837online
Tuesday 5th October 2004

After listening to feedback from our registered users, 1837online.com is pleased to announce that you will no longer have to search for your ancestors using only the first three letters of their surnames. As of today you can now research your family tree by typing in the full surname of your relatives, as well as the full first name too. By enabling you to perform a more comprehensive search you can now search for your ancestors more effectively, more efficiently and at a lower cost.

Yippee !!!

I have used the search facility on 1837online to try and find the births of one of my family groups but none of them was on it and yet the impression is given that all BMDs from 1837 have been transcribed. Luckily I had not paid a fee to do my search otherwise it would have been money wasted.

Has anyone else who accessed this site experienced the same problem.

The only time I haven't been successful on this site is when I haven't had much of an idea when the event occured and just trawled in hope of finding what I was looking for.

My Shepherds were particularly hard to find because of the many variations in the spelling of the name. It cost me heaps to find John Shepherd's marriage because he was under Shepheard - hopefully the new method of searching will be less of a gamble.
