Yarnton Parish register lookup please
« on: Sunday 19 March 06 15:44 GMT (UK) »
Robert Preedy apparently married Elizabeth Lee abt 1774 in Yarnton Woodstock. Does anyone have any information on them to help us progress further.  A lookup in the PR for their baptisms around 1750ish would be really helpful and much appreciated
thanks
Sonia

Hi Sonia,
Herewith some details re your queries.
A slight expansion on their marriage -

14 Oct 1774  X PREDY, Robert, b, o.t.p.
X  LEE, Elizabeth, sp. o.t.p. by Licence.
Witness: Thomas HALL, Isaac NIXON.

Having scoured the PRs for Yarnton, I cannot find any trace of Robert being baptised there. In fact according to the index the children of Robert & Elizabeth are the first  of that surname to be baptised in the parish - here they are:-

Baptisms.
12 Nov 1775 PRIDIE, Hannah, d Joseph & Elizabeth.
29 June 1777    "       Susannah, d   "              "
14 Mar 1779      "       Margaret, d    "              "
30 Mar 1783      "       Elizabeth, d    "              "
14 Aug 1785 PREDIE, Joseph s.       "               "
21 Apr 1789 PREEDY, Sarah, d,        "               "

The next family are of Joseph & Mary, regretably they did not marry in YARNTON so you will need to check the Oxford Marriages Index for that info.
Their Children however were baptised in Yarnton.

23 Mar 1817 PREEDY, John s. Joseph & Mary, Lab.
17 Dec 1820      "        Anne, d    "            "
  9 Apr 1826       "       Thomas, s "            "
13 Sep 1829      "        Sarah, d   "            "
10 Mar 1833      "        Joseph, s  "            "

Burials.
21 Apr 1789   PREEDY, Elizabeth, w Robert
27 Dec 1820       "        Anne, 10 days
18 Sep 1834       "        Joseph, 48, (Not bapt in Yarnton).
  3 Nov 1835       "        Joseph, 2 yrs and half.
25 Oct 1842        "        Joseph, 14 days. (no trace of bapt)
19 Apr 1844        "        Sarah, 30.

I am presuming that you did not have the above information so now you can expand a bit further. Have not found any others of that surname or variant on the PR.
Hope that this has been of some help.
Cheers.
George.

Hi everyone
I'm looking for a PREEDY family in oxfordshire too.
Jane DUNSBY [daughter of John DUNSBY from Yarnton and Mary nee HILL] married Nathan PREEDY about 1829 {he was her 3rd husband} they had 4 children.
Nathan was the first of 8 children of William PREEDY (abt 1776) and Ann ROBINSON William then married Sarah WANE and had another 9 children  :) William is in Tadmarton in 1841
If any of this is of interest I'll be happy to let you have full details and would be grateful for any information you come across on William

Hi Sonia and Trees,
Right now - I have found another section on the  YARNTON disc which seems to have another pile of PREEDYs , DUNSBYs and CHARLETTS in it; please give me a couple of days to try to sort them into some sort of order for you and then you can give me your queries as I will have the whole batch in front of me by then and should be able to respond fairly quickly .
Bear with me.
Cheers,
George.

Hi Trees,
Have just completed my check of the CHARLETTs bmd's in Yarnton - sum total of 79 entries between 1808 and 1900. I consider that this might be too large a quantity to submit on this site, practically 5 X A4 pages.
What do you reckon??
Cheers,
George.

Wow George thats a fair bit  ;D
I'm really looking for evidence that they passed the post of Parish Clerk down the generations. As my tree is peppered by parish Clerks I am trying to prepare a page about the post for my web site. James CHARLETT married the widow of the Parish Clerk of Hampton Poyle and one of her brothers took the post over from her late husband.
I know James CHARLETT (1842) was PC Yarnton in 1881
his father Gabriel CHARLETT (abt 1818) was in 1871
and his father Thomas CHARLETT (abt 1778) was between 1817-1851
Thomas' wife Lucy was the school mistress the church having set up a school room in the Parish Clerk's house.

Now can you see any evidence that any were Parish Clerks possibly on burial records or baptism records for their children?
Can I ask you to start by looking for the baptisms for the above? my dates are from census and other documents so found far I haven't yet seen the parish registers.
