There is plenty on the internet about them, they were RC and C of I.

I only spotted the name when looking for someone else. A few on 1901 Census, have you looked there?

Hi Donna,

I have no idea how to use this medium. I hope this reaches you. My great, great grandfather was John Campbell of Belturbet. He was born in 1788 and he married Mary Netterfield whose father was Isaac Netterfield. Any inf regarding the Netterfield family would be appreciated.

Doug Campbell

Why not Google them on the Irish Google Engine? I did and got 11,700 results...
www.google.ie and searched for "Netterfield" AND "Cavan"  You could use other keywords too.

I am looking for info regarding Campbell's in Belturbet.  What I know of my Campbell family is,  Jane Campbell, daughter of James and Anna Campbell, born in 1824.  It seems Doug is able to go back to the 1690's, I am curious if anyone else is able to trace the Campbell's in Belturbet back that far?
Thank you,
Matt

Hello Doug,

You mentioned a James Campbell that came to Belturbet in 1690.  I was wondering what else you know about James Campbell if you wouldn't mind sharing.  Do you know exactly where he was from?  Religion?  Age? Married?  Children?   Why did he come to Ireland?

Thank you,
Matt

Hi Matt,
My information regarding our Campbell ancestors came from a gentleman by the name of Shane McGovern.(*) This individual seems to be the unofficial historian of the Town of Belturbet in County Cavan where our forebear lived when they came to Ireland. Belturbet was apparently founded in the early 17th century by Protestants who more or less colonized much of Northern ireland and a good portion of Eire.  Strangely enough this chap now lives in western Quebec. I live in the City of Brockville, on ,a few miles away. Both places of course being in Canada.
The man's sister who is also a McGovern ( I can't remember her last name) lives in Cavan city and is also conversant in Belturbet history. You could contact her through (*).
Anyway, the aforesaid Shane McGovern created a collection of historical papers regarding the town and published it as "The Town Book of the Borough of Belturbet". The cost was 100 Cdn dollars. I have more info. My address is (*).
