look up for 1891 census
« on: Monday 20 March 06 18:01 GMT (UK) »
Hello. Can anyone help Can somebody tell me when the 1891 census for Canada was taken. I have an enigma  I have Sadie Agnes Hawley on the Uk census 1891 visiting her Aunt Amelia Wilson at Lower Basildon. Berkshire. But she is also shown on the Canadian census for 1891 with her parents William and Agnes  Hawley  of RAT PORTAGE ( Kenora) Ont .
Can anybody put me straight on this one. Also does the 1891 census for Canada show her other Aunt  Thirza Wilson as living in Rat Portage.
Any help would be most appreciated    M any Thanks Ken

the Canadian 1891 census was taken April 6, 1891.

but the english 1891 was taken on April 5th 1891 so now am totally confused as to how your ancestor could have been on both... curiouser and curiouser  ???

hope that helps

Best wishes

Hi Ken,

Maybe because she was just visiting, her parents thought they would put her on the census anyways?

Found a marriage for Theresa Wilson and James Lang, April 30, 1892 in Rat Portage.  There are some children for Theresa as well.  Do you know if she married a James Lang?

Hello Many thanks for your prompt reply, Her name was Thirza but sometimes it was mistaken. Yes she did marry a James lang and there would have been children as this was James's second marriage. His first wife died had died and Thirza went to keep house for him and look after the children. Is it possible she was on the 1891 census at Rat portage?
probably not as she was on the 1891 census  living at Bridgewater Somerset and working as a Cook. But guess shortly after this she came to Canada. I think she  must have accompanied young Sadie on her  trip back home to Canada.
