Migration to Canada: HUGHES from Tenby
« on: Thursday 07 October 04 18:26 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I'm trying to trace the family of Frederick John Hughes, born around 1990 in Tenby. The family migrated to Alberta, Canada, and were Canadian citizens before World War II (and maybe before WW 1).

I have very little information (i.e., zero apart from Frederick's name) to go on, as even his date of birth is "fuzzy" (may have been exaggerated in order to serve in the war). I have found one birth reference that may be his, in 1894, and have requested the birth certificate from GRO, but have no idea of how to go about tracing family in Canada.

If anyone has any suggestions, I would be very grateful.

Best regards,

Alison

Hi,

this is a searchable database for Canadians who served in the first world war.

http://www.collectionscanada.ca/02/020106_e.html

this is the Alberta Government site that offers searches and certificates

http://www3.gov.ab.ca/gs/information/vs/genealogy.cfm

The latest census available is the special 1906 census of the Prairies.  The following link gives many resources for Alberta, some however are subsciption only.

Hope this gives you something to work on

Thank you!!!!!!

The very first Frederick Hughes that I looked at on the first world war site was a Frederick Hughes, born in Tenby, Wales... with a signature that looked just exactly like that of the son of the Frederick I'm looking for, so much so that I'm dumbfounded.

And the birth date matches that of the earlier birth certificate I requested.

Thank you so very much!!!!!  This is quite unbelievable.  You have made my day.
