Emigrants in the late 1940s early 1950s

How do I go about trying to find out about a family who emigrated from Scotland to Australia - don't know where, probably in the early 1950s. Are there shipping lists for that time?

Hi Pat,
You would need to contact the National Archives of Australia. You can find information about their Immigration records service here:
http://www.naa.gov.au/the_collection/family_history/immigrants.html
They have a reference enquiry email address partway down that page, so you could send off an initial enquiry for your family.
Cheers
