Does anyone have information on the Whitchurch workhouse?
Particularly names of residents between 1901-1914. Photos etc.

Id be really grateful if you could help.

Hi Sarah,

I was in there a couple of months ago!! :o :o  (Well part of it is now Whitchurch hospital - and they do blood tests there - yep I've got some blood they said)

Anyway the library has the 1901 census records if you want me to look at them for you - any particular name?

Cheers

Keith

Hello Keith

Sorry its taken me so long to reply to your offer.
I would be really grateful if you could look for a Samuel Jarman for me. Martha, his wife, and a few of his children were resident in the workhouse.
His death is recorded as 1925 in Whitchurch, i presume buried in the local church, so he must have been resident somewhere.

Thanks Sarah
PS I hope they didnt take too much of the red stuff. Im a childrens nurse so i know how vicious they can be !!

1901 census RG13 2555
Union Workhouse Whitchurch  Shropshire
Folio 13 but page in front of children

Martha Jarman 43  Whitchurch, Shropshire,  Inmate
Folio 13

Maud Jarman 8  Whitchurch, Shropshire, Inmate
Beatrice Jarman 3  Whitchurch, Shropshire,  Inmate

Harry Jarman 11 Whitchurch, Shropshire, Inmate
Arnold Jarman 10  Whitchurch, Shropshire,  Inmate
Wilfred Jarman 5  Whitchurch, Shropshire, Inmate

No sign of Samuel which is perphas why the family was in the workhouse. You would have to check the workhouse records themselves for more detail.

Hi Sarah,

If Valda has found the correct family in 1901  - the kids are all together in the 1891 with Samuel - but no Martha ( do you have/ want the detail?)

Samuel born in Newtown Montgomeryshire aged 39 - but can't find him in 1901!!

Trouble is the "big" cemetery opened around 1900?? in Whitchurch - if he is in that lot you may be unlucky!!

Will see what else I can find - do you have Martha's death details??

Cheers

Keith

I have traced this family line down to the children of Samuel Jarman (1851-1925) and his wife Martha Williams (1857-1947) married 24 July 1882.

My tree is Jarman Family Tree user ChristopherJarman on Ancestry.

I would be please if anyone connected with this branch could contact me at:

Kind regards,
