b.m.d site on Ancestry.
« on: Monday 03 April 06 21:17 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know if all the records of births marriages and deaths have put on the Ancestry B.M.D site.?
Because  I have a marriage certificate in the year 1929 and when I look on B.M.D it is not there.

Hi Kerry,

I have noticed when doing a broad search for a name that there seems to be quite a few missing pages.

Ancestry has a beta ("test") version of the complete GRO index.  However, there are a few teething troubles with their indexing, so you sometimes need to use a bit of imagination...  ::)

For instance, if there don't seem to be any births in a particular quarter for Griffiths, try looking for Gri  or even Gr - then use the Prev/Next arrows to navigate to the page you need.

Hi, the FreeBMD is far from complete, but there are apparently hundreds of volunteers working flat out to remedy that.

Your best bet is the Beta version of the images, but even they are not 100% complete.

If you really do need the certificate, and you know the names and the year, write a letter to the local RO. They will be able to issue you with a copy of the cert.

www.1837online.com has a more complete list than either ancestry or freebmd, but you have to pay for it.  I have tested this out, and there is another thread about it somewhere here.  freebmd is almost useless after about 1910.
However, there are lots of people who seem to be missing from all lists.  I know that everyone says they are there somewhere, but there are so many spelling mistakes etc on ALL of these sites that sometimes it's impossible to find people through any index and you are probably better off going directly to the registration district in question and searching there.
