Hi Mack,

Have you tried looking at this site http://www.zip.com.au/~lnbdds/Boschi/ Seems to me that if there are any records in existence for Mather and Platt, this guy must have them or know where they are, there is a link to email on the site.

They also had a journal, apparently yearly, and if there are any kept in archives somewhere you might find his name and something about him in there.

I found one which had been transcribed http://www.cavillconnections.co.uk/matherjournal.htm but unfortunately it was for 1941.

I would think it also worth your while to post on the Lancashire board to see if somebody has a street directory/trade directory for the pre 1914 period, he must show up on that surely?

Mack you don't check the trade directories yourself - you post a request asking whether anybody has the directory and will they look it up FOR you!!  ;D ;D That's the clever way - well I'd do it myself, except I don't have them  ;)

This is what I'd do if he lived in Liverpool, there are people with trade directories for various years which list the head of the household with their occupation and address.  There must be similar for Manchester.

Is it not possible to contact the Ministry of Defence with his details like it is for WWII and get some sort of personnel file?  Maybe ask first if it gave his details and address, family  etc. at call up time.

hiya mary, its his last known address thats eluding me,everything about him and his brothers war service is a piece of cake, but civvie records are to complicated for me,i tried doing my family tree once, but i think i mucked it up,cos i seem to be the love child of idi amin and no relation to myself ;D ;D ;D,i didnt like to ask folks to search directories cos it may be disturbing their own research time, mack
