1861/1871 Lookups, Please - Roberts

Hello -

I have the following 1881 census info on my relatives:

John D. Roberts, Son, 5, Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales, Scholar
G. May Roberts, Daughter, 3, Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales
Martin Luther Roberts, Son, 1, Aberdare, Glamorgan, Wales

If anyone can find census information for David J. Roberts in 1861 and 1871 and possibly a marriage record for David and Frances, it would be most appreciated.

Hi,
There's a marriage on the free BMD website for a David John Roberts and a  Frances Williams, listed under the same volume and page number as each other .
 You'll find them under the reg district  Merthyr Tydfil , Glamorgan  in the March quarter 1874 , 11a 610 ( which I would guess  it is probably them as all their kids are born in Aberdare according to the above 1881 census info ) .


There are 3 David Roberts around about 17/18 yrs old born  and living in Llanelli in the 71 census that I can see with a quick search ( all  are sons of the  various households)  and a couple more who are living in Llanelli, but born elsewhere in Carmarthenshire.
Have you any parents names for your David Roberts, or any of his  siblings names? It will help rootschatters  to narrow it down a bit to which one maybe yours in the 71  census.

Thanks for your quick response... Unfortunately I don't have any information yet about David's family.  The G. May Roberts (Guzela), age 3, is my great grandmother, who I've been tracing backwards from her life here in the U.S. The family emmigrated to the U.S. in 1884 and the 1881 census is the only information I have in Wales so far.

The marriage of David John Roberts and Frances Williams in 1874 looks like a winner.  Can you find anything on Frances Williams in 1861 and 1871?  Also, I'd be curious to see the three possible records for David - maybe we can figure something out.

All others born Carmarthenshire.
Living at 8, Pond Street, Aberdare.
couldn't find in 1861...yet.

Then,
Frances Williams on 1871 age 16 with
Lewis Williams age 49
David age 22
Elizabeth age 19
Gomer age 6 born Aberdare
Mary J age 9 born Aberdare
Rachel age 4 William age 13 born Aberdare
William age 13 born Aberdare
Others all born Carmarthenshire
Living at 7, Bond Street

In 1861
All above...plus Mary Williams (mother) age 38
John age 18
Lewis age 14
All born Carmarthen
Living at 18, Bond Street.

Right, found them on 1861!!
Living at 98, Mill Lane, Llanelly
Margaret Roberts age 32
David John age 7
Martin age 3
Thomas age 5
Catherine age 4months
And ..Catherine Davies age 75 listed as mother, so Margaret's maiden name possibly Davies.
Doesn't say where dad (John Roberts) is tho.
Margaret is Head and occ. charwoman.
Will see if I can find him as lodger somewhere else.

Noy found him yet, but have found marriage details;

Thank you very much for doing the lookups for me.  I guess my next step will be to request the marriage certificates to verify that we have the right families.

Hi Lou,
I am pretty certain they are the right family, but certs will verify it for you.
For some reason I cant find either family in 1851, but maybe someone with fresher eyes might be able to.
The only other bit I have found is the marriage for Frances' parents;
Lewis Williams- Mary Lewis..2nd qtr 1844 Carmarthen vol 26, page 801.
