Hello Folks - Well this has us all baffled !
Certainly in the original it seems as though the bride's hand is resting on a ' block ' of some sort.
It can't be that he had a false hand 20 years later as Tamor says he definitely had both arms.
Where do we go from here ? The only difference I can see in the second picture is the ears - in original left ear looks more battered !
I'll keep thinking !

Could it be a plaster cast on there (as for a broken arm) , or some other support?

Pauline

Well ...I keep looking at the second photo .....and two things struck  me ..... could the hand be a prosthetic one ... see

http://www.scienceandsociety.co.uk/results.asp?image=10288796&wwwflag=2&imagepos=30

and maybe he hadn't actually got the hand bit attached  on the first photo !!
I have zoomed in on the pic with the hand ....and it does look as if it could be artificial..... and secondly .... is it my imagination  or do you think he could be blind too  ???   ... It's just the way he is looking in a different direction on both pics to the others and has a slightly vacant look?? Sorry if I 've made this more complicated  ::)

Just feel wew have to get to the bottom of this !!  :o

Just a thought, but it looks as though in the first picture he has extra fabric around his left arm and the sleeve isnt as tight as that of the right arm.  It may just be the way that he is standing but I think the arm might have been broken as was mentioned earlier.
