CLAHANE OR CLOGHANE HUGGARDS?
« on: Saturday 08 April 06 18:01 BST (UK) »
Hi - I'm trying to unravel a tangle of Huggards in the early 1800s.  Apparently there are three branches of Huggards in Kerry, one on each peninsula - mine are the Clahane (Annagh parish?) Huggards, which is sometimes confused with Cloghane, where there seem to be another branch of Huggards.  I have a William (son of Martin of Clahane) Huggard, born around 1820, married Eleanor Woods 1840 in Westport Church. They were Church of Ireland or Methodist. He was an Inland Revenue Officer/merchant - moved around a bit.  There are several Martins and Williams in all of the Huggard branches and if anyone has any clue as to how to untangle them I'd be forever grateful!!  :D
Thanks
Jaylay

I was just researching Huggards and I came across your note. I am totally new to this site but my great grandmother was Kate Huggard from Clahane and her father was Richard Huggard and wife Hanora Reidy according to the marriage certificate.  I think Kate was one of 10 kids. I have a picture of a Huggard farm in Clahane and a family tree.  The weird thing is the tree says descendants of Thomas Huggard and Margaret Reidy which contradicts the marriage certificate.  I don't know if this is the same family as yours?

Hi Irisheyes

Welcome to Rootschat!  I have lots of information on Huggards in Kerry.  My ancestor is Martin Huggard of Clahane, who  had a son, William, who I am descended from.  He also had sons called Richard and Stephen, and there is definitely a Thomas somewhere.  I do know there are a couple of Richard Huggards around that area, at that time, which is causing some confusion!  I am happy to email you a descendants list of my Huggards if you can PM me your email address (don't post it on this forum because of spam etc.) .  You will not be able to send or receive PMs until you have made 3 posts I think, so if you reply to this message a couple of times I think that will sort it.

Looking forward to hearing from you  :)

Jaylay

HI, I also noticed you mentioned something about a Ballyseedy cemetery having Huggards in it, have you found out anything more?  I don't know where my great grandmother is buried although she and my great grandfather raised my grandmother in dingle so maybe she is there?

Hi Irisheyes

I have not found graves of my Huggards in Kerry as yet, although Ballyseedy does have some other names connected to me.  I also have connections to Dingle so maybe our Huggards are connected!

Are these the same Huggards that connect to Elizabeth Huggard who married Joseph O'Neill (Neale) of Killeenafinane, Castlemaine?

I am interested in tracing these and their family - children, parents etc....

Many thanks

Denis
