LONGMORE family Tedavnet Parish, Co Monaghan
« on: Sunday 09 April 06 02:55 BST (UK) »
Hello from Australia!

I am trying to trace the family of George LONGMORE and Jean MURDOCK. A son, Francis, was born in Tullyvogy in 1826. They were Presbyterian. I know, as yet, of no other siblings...or any details of George and Jean.

A chink in that proverbial "brick wall" for me was learning today where Francis was born, and the name of his parents. I would love to loosen some mortar!

If anyone can help with a snippet of information, I would be rapt!!!

Thanks

Elsie

Elsie:
This looks like your George. Since there is more info than you had I assume that this was not a posting on your behalf.

"We have traced my wife's family back to George LONGMORE and
Betty GIBSON who lived in Monaghan c.1780. They had 9 children, George,
Joseph, David & William.
The eldest, George died in Monaghan in 1827. At some unknown date
he married Jane MURDOCK, the daughter of John MURDOCK & ? CARLISLE.
George & Jane had the following children, Mary b.1811, Robert
b.1813, Joseph b.1815, John b.1819 and Francis b.1826. After the death of
George the family migrated to Australia and the youngest, Francis,
eventually became a Member of Parliament in Victoria.
Any information on the Longmores in Monaghan would be greatly
appreciated.
Regards,
Bill Crozier, Brisbane."

Yes, this family has come up in recent conversation in the Tedavnet area, though the name has long gone from there. This information could renew people's interest in the search.
