Linda,
To add to Svenja's reply, I would recommend you read this webpage http://kunden.eye.ch/swissgen/intro-e.htm where the system of Swiss citizenship (and hence family records) are explained. As Svenja says you need to know the community of origin of your family to start.
Also the forum she mentioned is helpful, and the webmasters will translate the post to/from English.
Paul

Hi Linda

From which source do you have the information about Rose Corboz and her father Edward Corboz?
If you don't have more details as the ones you mentionned you can't search in Switzerland.

Hi Svenja

Thanks for your help. Rose Corboz was in the 1901 census giving her pob as Switzerland (French Swiss); in 1905 she married, showing her father was Edward Corboz, Shoe Maker. in 1911 her POB is shown as Switzerland, Lusanne, Swiss and in 1939 gives her date of birth as 26 January 1880.

Hi Linda

So she was born at Lausanne, Canton Waadt/Vaud, Switzerland.
So you can write to the registrars office or the state archives of Lausanne.

Cercle Vaudois de Généalogie = Genealogical Society of the Canton Waadt/Vaud
http://www.ancetres.ch/index.php?id=5 explains the following facts:

For birth/mariage/death records after the year 1875
http://www.vd.ch/themes/vie-privee/etat-civil/

For birth/marriage/death records of the years 1821-1875
For baptism/marriage/death parish records 1562-1821

Archives Cantonales Vaudoises (State Archives Waadt/Vaud)

Hi

The churchbooks of Poschiavo are held at the State Archives of the Canton Graubünden.

Gada is a Ticino name. See http://www.hls-dhs-dss.ch/famn/?lg=e

Refer to
http://kunden.eye.ch/swissgen/schweiz-en.html for very useful info about Researching Swiss ancestors, though it can be a bit out of date in some areas.

Hi Jackie,

I recently begin working on the Poschiavo side of my family tree.  My ancestor that came to Australia was a Compagnoni whose are parents Giovani Tomaso COMPAGNONI and Giacomina SEMADENI.

If right, without going into further detail we are cousins about 7th.

Orsolina SEMADENI is interesting.  Her daughter is listed on the 1911 Census as Niece to Pietro Rodolfo LARDI - Louise Anette SEMADENI.  From what I know Louise didn't have a sister. Her father was Hans Semadeni his fame being the pioneer of the Swiss-Italian rush of Pastry cooks / confectioners.  Have you found out anything more about Orsolina?

Jason.

Hi

Marriages of Compagnoni from Poschiavo in Australia were also mentionned in the Swiss newspapers:

Svenja, I found E-Newspapers Archives site only a couple weeks ago.  Thank you for the link to the article.  It has 7 Deaths / Marriages from my Compagnoni family.

Jason.
