Hi Gem,
     Does your machine run through Hewlet Packards "photo and imaging director? if so I think that the moire pattern control may be called descreen. Some of the lower end scanners may have the descreen/mag' scan/moire remove on as a default. So if you cant find it do a scan anyway - if the resulting scan shows no definite patterns then fine, otherwise you are going to have to find the control.

Yes it does. I have looked in "help" and it tells me about 'descreen' but I can not find it on my machine.

Short on time at the mo' but in hp manager, you will either find it under advanced as in pic'1 or on the right hand panel as in pic'2.

I have just returned from holiday and visited Lybster and spoke to an elderly gentleman named John.

He worked as a coastguard for part of his life.
