browsing though some old posts and saw this . ..dont know if you've made any progress on this since then, but there is a possible match for the birth you are looking for on the familysearch Civil Index :

 Name: Thomas Michael King
 Registration district: Dublin South
 Record type: Birth
 year: 1872
 Volume: 2 / Page: 754

you can order a cert from the GRO using these details.

Can't find any thing for Cecelia Hodge.
Did you get Michael's birth cert?
The only Michael King I can see born Dublin in 1871 is an incomplete record father William

I can't see a Thomas, Michael or Unknown in the Dublin area born to Michael and Cecelia.

Maybe someone else will have better luck.

Forgot to add
Thomas Michael 1872

Looks like the Michael from 1871.

A few things to consider.
A death cert is based on what the informant believed so may not be correct.
Birth registration started in Ireland in 1864 so was hit and miss early on.
Lots of British Army Regiments spent time in Ireland so his parents may not have married in Ireland.

There is a register of Army births, it's on FindMyPast.

If the only place you've found the parents' names is that death certificate, I wouldn't rule anything out too quickly. His marriage certificate is likely to be more accurate since he was there to give the details.

Just in case this later proves to be the correct Thomas Michael King-

Here's the baptism for Thomas Michael King (28 Sept.1864 Dublin) with parents Thomas King & Theresa, 89 Capel St.-
