thanks.  It's annoying that the 1861 Ely Census is missing as this one would hold a lot of answers to questions and guestimates.

Apparently the 1861 Ely pages were destroyed in a flood.

I know just what you mean-I found two children in Newington on the 1851 but sadly the first page containing their parents is missing  :(

Yep the only rural missing pages in Sussex covers one of my families!  Typical!

Didn't know about the Lincs ones, that could explain some problems there too! :)

I have 7 pages missing from the 1861 census in Whitehaven, Cumberland - not mentioned on that list.  It could just be me, but the pages definitely jump from 6-14.  The relatives I am looking for, after spending days looking for them, are on the pages missing.

How are you trying to access the Whitehaven pages? If its through rhe likes of Ancestry then it could be a scanning or linking problem with them.

Thanks for the welcome.  I've come across a similar problem before with Ancestry and a missing page, fortunately it didn't affect me. I'm sure somebody on the Cumberland Forum will be able to help. I too have ancestors from Whitehaven so its handy to know of any potential problem. Findmypast.com also have the 1861 census so if I can't find people on Ancestry then I may try findmypast (not that I have used it before)
