Family Legend Arthur Osman Frederick Longhurst

According to the legend Arthur, born 1878, emmigrated to Australia. He appears on the UK 1901 census, so if he did go, when and how?

Although I've been doing my trees since 2000, this is my first venture into Australian emmigration from the UK so would be grateful for any information or web addresses that could be useful.

I did a search of the NSW BDM index and had the following results for "Arthur Longhurst:

The first one would be the only entry worth looking into further.  You can get a transcription of this record quite cheaply through a transcription agent such as:

www.marbract.com.au

I found no results in the Victorian BDM index (also searchable at: http://online.justice.vic.gov.au/servlet/IdxSearch?action=getHistIdxSearchCriteria )

There are no online BDM indices for Queensland.   The Queensland Family History Society has a lot of records that can be searched.  They expect only a donation for this service.  More information at:

As far as post 1901 migration goes, the Victorian unassisted migration index goes to 1923 but I found no reference there to Arthur.  The website address is:

The NSW State Archives has some records online, but I don't believe they will be of use to you in finding Arthur.  The website address is:

Thanks for a great list of sites which I will definitely investigate further. I don't think the NSW BDM entries are mine at this time. As I said this is a 'family legend' and could be a complete red herring but I'm going to follow your leads and see what turns up.
