Marriage in Jersey. Ozard/Pink
« on: Monday 17 April 06 17:46 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I have been trying to find the record of the marriage of my g.grandfather James Pink to Elizabeth Ozard. I have been all the way through the BMD in England for this marriage but with no luck.
James Pink was born in Hambledon, Hampshire in 1830 and his first wife Catherine died on 16/4/1874 the next record I have of him is in the1881 census, living in Portsmouth & married to Elizabeth with their two children, Herbert born on10/5/1877 and Hilda born on 4/7/1880.
Elizabeth Jane Avril was born in St Helier in 1839 daughter of John & Elizabeth Avril and her first marriage I think, was to a Thomas Ozard from Guernsey & they had two children, Florence & Thomas who are living with them in Portsmouth on the 1881 census. In the 1871 Jersey census Elizabeth is living with her mother & 'Ozard' children in St Helier.
I can only hope that they must have been married in St Helier sometime between mid 1874 and mid 1876. Fingers crossed, someone can find some info for me otherwise it's a rather large brick wall!

Many thanks Mike, I did resort to a researcher at the Societe Jersaise in the end & he did find this out for me.  I find it most frustrating not being able to look up births deaths & marriages for the Channel Islands on line but I'm hoping to get over to St Helier in September to do some research myself.
Once again thank you.
