Any ideas where this is?
« on: Saturday 22 April 06 08:56 BST (UK) »
Hello,
Does ayone have an idea where this entry on the 1851 census might refer to (image attached, hopefully). Looks like "Hine". HO107/1489/196.

Have looked on multimap and there is no sign of it so wonder if it isn't a part of Oxford as opposed to Oxfordshire.

I looked on Autoroute and the nearest I could find was a Hine Rd in Hitchin

I've got a couple of ancestors whose residence was given as Hythe Bridge,it sounds a bit similar.

Could it be "Hinc" short for Hinksey?

Thank you all for your help,

No, Pennie. This is the only useful census entry for my g/g/g/g-grandmother Mary Frewer, 64, living in Homer Street, Marylebone, with her husband Robert in 1851. Within a couple of years she was in the workhouse and she died soon after. I know Robert and Mary (maiden name unknown) were married before 1814, when they had son James in Westminster. Robert probably came from Suffolk, but his birthplace is "not known" on the 1851. Maybe, after that response, the enumerator had had enough - hence my problem.

Hi Rob ...

One piece of somewhat "negative" information for you - there are no FREWER marriages on the Oxfordshire Marriage Index, so it would seem that Mary did not marry in her home parish.
