Unfortunately I can’t get to any London original records.
You could apply for Edward’s birth record from GRO? I think it’s about £10 if you’re prepared to wait fifteen working days. Otherwise, I think it’s £25?

Birth certificates are £9.25.  You can get a PDF copy of the entry for births prior to 1916 for £6

As I've mentioned on a previous thread, there's a baptism at St Martins-in-the-Fields in June 1867 for Edwin White son of Sarah & John  White, messenger, 5 Taylors Buildings. Born 18 May 1867.

He’s an errand boy age 14 on the 1881 census I mentioned, with John and Sarah as parents.

I am surprised that people are still going round in circles on this one. There are at least 5 previous threads.

I think we can say with reasonable certainty that he was baptised as Edwin White; that his mother's maiden name was Sarah Tindley and she had previously been married to a shoemaker named James Beattie; that his father was John White, a shoemaker who worked as a messenger in the 1860's then went back to his old trade.

thank you for that. My grandmothers maiden name was Wood. She was living with Edward in the 1901 census and they had a son Edward although they were not married. Her Christian name was Maud but by the time she married Edward she was calling herself Alice.
