Where are the Wrays??

Dear All,

With the aid of the Census info, can anyone help me find my Family the Wrays.
Edward Wray was born c1857 to Henry Wray.
Edward Married Mary Ross in 1890, where he is aged 33, and is living in Easington.
I can't find Edward on the censuses.
Nor can I find a marriage for Henry Wray.
I have been told Henry was from Dalton, Darlington, but this has so far not been confirmed.

Can you help?

Mary WREY, wife, 59, Durham, Aycliffe
William Dixon WREY, grandson, 6, Dalton on Tees
Edward COATES, grandson, 3, Dalton on Tees

This might be him and, either Coates was a middle name and the surname was inadvertantly missed off, or he was illegitimate and changed his name later.  Have you got his birth certificate?  If you found his father's name from his marriage certificate it is not entirely reliable.  Sometimes illegitimate children made up fathers names or, possibly, he put his grandfather's name as he had brought him up.  There is an Edward COATES on censuses in 1871 and 1881, both times he is a servant.  Maybe he used his grandfather's surname to get married??  Unless, of course, you have other information which might help

Hi,

Thanks for that...it certainly looks correct, as Henrys father was an Edward Wray...confusing I know.
I think i may look for a marriage between a coates and wray...the plot certainly thickens on this one.
