hi bob, patrick joseph macnamee, born belfast 1885, was in australia in 1910, he no doubt arrived at sydney, his father was patrick and his mother was martha, but i think he gave his sister's name as his next of kin, which is suprising as his mother was still alive, margaret mcnamee later became margaret houston in 1912, he fathered two sons before he got married in 1916

Hi joebhoy  :)

OzyBob is spot on, you should contact the National Archives of Australia and see if they can help you track down your arrivals.  They should be most helpful with the later arrival - the earlier one may be recorded in the State archives.  Try www.records.nsw.gov.au and contact their reference service for assistance.

They will definitely be recorded somewhere, especially as they arrived in the 20th century.

Cheers

yes bob, just as prue points out, your spot on there mate! as far as i am led to believe patrick joseph was in the aif, and went to india? during ww1, it's his arrival that's doing my nut in, his and peter's, there's seem to be easy access to corresponding matters regarding their live's in australia but it is difficult to get there arrival, a few people earlier on this board have tried for me their wonderful efforts returned the same as me, empty-handed, i seem to be looking at all the wrong places or get side-tracked when i enter most sites, no doubt those experierenced researchers can tell of my imaturity in genealogy, totally lost in australian records. peter mcnamee came over with children but how many? did he join the aif too? i deeply appreciate all the help i am having on this board, thank you.

Hi again Joe  :)

What I meant by my post was that you should contact the archives (national and state), which you can do by email, for information about arrival documentation for your men.  The archives will hold the passenger lists, it's just a matter of whether they are in the national archives or the state ones.

Cheers
Prue

right on the nose again bob, ernest mcnamee son of peter, well done, if you cannot find any other children born in ireland to peter that kinda opens up a new story!!! it means he arrived earlier to australia than i first thought, as with prue saying about the archives i am sure i was in there about 2 months ago and asked to be sent a copy, still waiting, also waiting for documents to be opened, 2 months now! don't know what i've done wrong?? is it a waiting game? i registered as a guest and tried to find their arrival but found nothing. regarding peter's family i will now have to search for their birth in australian records

Hi Joe,
The archives (national, at least) don't have everything described and indexed online, so with reference enquiries the reference officer will have to search high and low for potentially relevant documents, and then go through them all to find out whether the info you want is in there.
Sometimes something is indexed online, but "not yet examined" - everything that is in the archives has to be examined by an access examiner, it's just a routine thing, and after they have examined it it is usually "open" and can be accessed by the public.
Unfortunately there are  limited numbers of staff who do this, and thousands of people like you and me who request stuff, so it can take a long time for your request to get seen to.
They will get there eventually!  :D
