Minimum age for army enlistment?

Joseph Smith Routledge, born 8 October 1898, Ryhope County Durham. Son of Middle Class father Thomas Miller Routledge. Enlisted too young. His father wrote enclosing Joseph's Birth Certificate. Brought back to England but not released from the Army. Sent back to France when of age and killed there 2 September 1918.

I think you need to ask uncle how he made the connection between this Edward Smith Clark & yours as there's no address, next of kin or anything to identify him.

Did you mean Edward Clark? 

Yes I need to ask him where he got it from ... but he's unwell at the moment and doesn't seem interested in helping me.  I know he paid for research some years ago.

I've had three replies from 3 different cousins of my dad (Teds grandchildren) and all 3 have said the photo in question is Ted ... so I just don't know I might have to accept defeat.  One if them said he recalls the story of Ted changing his age ... but that makes no sense for WW1 as he was 30 by then so unless he did go to Boer War but I've nothing except that photograph I'm hoping someone in the family might have other younger photos.

But thank you for your replies ... hopefully my uncles interest might be rekindled at some point.  And I do hope to pay a visit to Teds one surviving son and ask him a question or two.

A bit more on 2272 Albert. Received the BW & V Medals having attested into the 1st. Batt. Glos. Regt. & transferred to the 2nd.
Attested 18/8/1914 & discharged 11/3/1919 (sickness) aged 38.
His number indicates he was a Special Reservist at the time.
2 different men.
